Education Development
Modernization and update of the existing educational/training programs
- Academic programs updating.
The plan is to update existing and elaborate new academic programs in collaboration with the leading Russian and international faculty and researchers, particularly:
Updating the Master’s degree program 21.04.03 – “Geodesy and Remote Sensing”. The works are supported by enterprises involved in the aerospace industry, particularly OAO NPK RECOD (Research and Production Corporation RECOD, OJSC) and others.
Updating of the Master’s degree program 03.04.03 — Radiophysics. It is planned to modify academic programs “Electromagnetic Waves in Media”, “Information Processes and Systems”, and develop a new major “Radiophysical Monitoring of Outer Space”. This program’s development will be supported by the Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) of the Russian Academy of Science (RAS), IZMIRAN and the University of Leipzig. Gradual transition to English is also scheduled for the Institute of Applied Astronomy of the RAS, IZMIRAN, SAO RAN and enterprises involved in the aerospace industry.
- New academic programs
A unique Master’s degree program “Gravitation, Theoretical and Observational Cosmology” will be developed in partnership with the leading Russian and international faculty and researchers. There are no analogous Master programs in the world. Graduates of this program will be in demand both with Russian RAS organizations, and foreign scientific organizations.
The Master’s degree program “Space Ecology” is focused on developing Master students’ practical competencies in using satellite materials of Earth remote sensing from space. Graduates of this program will be in demand with the following spheres of economy, business, and public management: Rosreestr (Russian Register), Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Natural Resources, agroindustrial sector, Ministry of Forestry, Public Joint-Stock Companies involved in mineral prospecting and production; cellular service operators; land committees and city administrations; geodesic firms and design institutes. We are planning to establish partnership relations with the Space Research Institute of the RAS, Belgorod University, Moscow State University, RAS Institute of Geography, Tatneft and others.
Master program “Mathematical and Information Support of Space Activities”. Its graduates will be in demand with Rostec corporation and aerospace corporation.
“Space Product, Service and Technology Management”. “Space Technologies in Territorial Development Management”. Gradual transition to the program teaching in English is also scheduled. Graduates of this program will be in demand with public authorities and respective ministries.
The Bachelor program “Instrument Engineering” will be opened in the major “Space Device Engineering”. Development of the Master program “Microcircuit Design” will be the continuation of this program. In future, it will obtain international accreditation with their partner universities (over 1000 world’s top universities).
- The introduction of the system of education according to individual academic curricula. To solve this problems we are planning to establish and develop basic departments in collaboration with the leading institutes and public corporations “Experimental Astrophysics” (SAO RAS), 2015, “Optoelectronic Instrument Engineering” (Research and Production Association “State Institute of Applied Optics”, OJSC), 2016, “Applied Radiophysics” (V. I. Shimko Research and Production Association “Radioelectronics”, OJSC), 2016.
- Supplementary Academic Programs. KFU also intends to establish “Kazan Federal University Centre for Space Services” (KFU CSS) in collaboration with the parent organization Public corporation for space activities Roscosmos, JSC NPK RECOD. The center will be created within the framework of the Agreement of Cooperation in space activity result application, which solves a wide range of education-, research- and production-related problems.
- Enlightenment Academic Programs. An innovation training program for space research is currently being developed in KFU at the Department of Astronomy and Space Geodesy, Engelhardt Astronomic Observatory, and Planetarium. The All-Russian Teaching and Learning Centre for Astronomy and Space (7000 students and schoolchildren per year) are currently functioning. Lobachevsky All-Russian (Volga Region) Schoolchildren Scientific Conference, including sessions on space research, is held in KFU for especially talented schoolchildren.
Professional development plans for faculty members participating in the implementation of the educational programs
– Involving staff members of leading Russian and international astronomical organizations in training sessions and student practice and research supervision.
– Academic load reduction to 500 class hours a year per faculty member in order to attract highly qualified research and academic staff from the leading Russian and foreign universities on a competitive basis.
– Involving staff members of leading Russian and international astronomical organizations in training sessions and student practice and research supervision.
– Organization of international conferences and schools of young scientists by the Institute of Physics– up to 4 per year by 2020.
– Invitation of leading foreign experts, leaders in space research and technologies, to postdoc positions on a competitive basis.
– Staff academic mobility (1-2 months) with the leading Russian and international astronomical organizations, partner universities and industrial organizations; academic mobility enhancement. Staff sending to foreign partner companies of KFU leading in space device engineering, CAD systems and device and system simulation.
